The Annwn Prize launched in 2025 as a joint initiative of the Wales Millennium Centre and Crossover Labs, marking a major new moment in the global arts calendar. Selected by a community of international curators and commentators, the nominated works are those which demonstrate excellence in compelling storytelling; make audiences feel like an active and integral part of the piece; and utilise technologies that enhance, augment or impact our sense of reality. They must have been exhibited in a festival, tour or venue programme within the past 18 months to be eligible.
The Annwn Prize celebrates excellence in immersive storytelling. Each year, it awards the best story-driven work made through the use of creative technology from around the world. It recognises works that make audiences feel like an active and integral part of the piece, and utilise technologies that enhance, augment or transform our sense of reality.
Nominated by a community of international curators and commentators, four shortlisted works will be showcased in a major exhibition at Wales Millennium Centre, giving an opportunity for audiences to experience the very best work from across the world in the UK. A jury of experts and well-known faces will select the winning artist or studio, who will receive a £20,000 prize and a bespoke residency to support the development of new work.
Annwn (pronounced [Ahn-wn]) is “the Otherworld” in Welsh mythology, a parallel realm of dreams and delights.
The Annwn Prize, set up by Wales Millennium Centre and produced by Crossover Labs, is made possible through the generous support of Peter and Janet Swinburn.
